Building up the wall

Executive Summary: II Chronicles 7:14,” If My people which are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Please hit this link if you and your church will commit to standing in the gap before our God to reverse the destruction of our land. There will never be any solicitations, just a growing group of Christians seeking the Lord with their whole heart.

It was in perilous times. The walls of Jerusalem had been thrown down for one hundred and forty-three years. The gates had been burned with fire. The temple of God had been rebuilt, but the people of God were defenseless. The godless had terrorized the righteous with mocking’s, threats of physical violence, and constant legal conflict. The godless had also infiltrated God’s people, mixing the heathen culture and language into the faith, even in the high priest’s home. But things were about to change because of one man’s prayers and deeds.

When Nehemiah heard of the situation in Jerusalem, he wept, mourned for days, fasted, and cried out to God. He reminded God of His covenant and mercy to those who love, fear, and obey His commandments. Then Nehemiah confessed his sins, and his people’s sins, as he remembered how they had corrupted God’s ways, and had not obeyed His commands, statutes, and judgments. Then he remembered the Word of God given by Moses, that, “If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations. But if you turn (Repent, means to turn around) unto Me, and keep My commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the utmost part of heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set My name there.” Then Nehemiah asked for God to hear his prayer. He asked, along with those who like him desired to fear the Lord, for God to prosper their plans to rebuild the walls and gates of God’s people. Nehemiah asked for mercy and favor with the government. Miraculously God moved the King to commission Nehemiah to rebuild the walls, gates and the city. (Nehemiah 1:4-11)

Nehemiah came to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls. At first, he spoke to no one of his plans. He just surveyed the reality, the total destruction of the protective walls of God’s city. Gathering the leaders together Nehemiah told them of his plans for rebuilding the gates and walls of protection for God’s people. Then Nehemiah told them of the king’s commission to help them. Both the rulers and the people were enthusiastic about the plans and started with a will to work.

Each leader worked on the wall with those who had the will to work with him. Progress was rapidly made, and opposition from their enemies rose up just as fast. Because the people had a mind to work, the wall quickly passed half completion. The opposition was furious and planned a secret attack on God’s people. Nehemiah heard of this and God’s people made their prayer to God. A continuous watch was set night and day. The families with their weapons, assembled together in the gaps of the walls as Nehemiah reminded them, “Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, and your houses.” Nehemiah 4:14. Rebuilding the wall was completed in 53 days amongst much intrigue from their enemies and everyone knew it was a miracle from God.

What is our condition today? We are in perilous times! The foundations of our society have been destroyed. Christianity is being attacked in America like never before. Christians have been arrested recently just for getting together. Total godlessness is being mandated for our country. Our walls are in shambles, they will no longer defend us from the enemy. The gates have been burnt, allowing every perversion to run rampant.

Let’s lay it all out on the table. There is at least as much sin in the church today as there is in the world. The church simply winks at abortion, adultery, sex outside of marriage, pornography, incest, lying, cheating, stealing, hatred, homosexuality, witchcraft, addictions of all kinds, rebellion, and every other kind of sin. All of these things are rampant in the church, and they are not spoken against. They are not even spoken about! I sincerely hope it is different in your church, but I have seen so much evil in ministries, pastors and God’s people around our country.

It is time for that to change. The church has set aside God’s rules so we can fit in and be comfortable in this present godless age. We have to change. We serve a holy God who cannot tolerate sin. Our sin offends God deeply. We need to declare the awfulness and the penalty for sin in our churches. We have to be diligent and pray, just like Nehemiah and the families that took up their weapons and stood in the gap. It’s time for us all to repent, take up our spiritual weapons and stand in the gap today.

Ezekiel 22:30, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” It is not the world’s behavior that is bringing judgment on our country. This judgment is God’s response to Christian’s abandoning Him. Note the part of the verse above, “stand in the gap before Me.” It is God that is going to destroy the land, not some enemy. God is the one that can bless or destroy our land, and He is hoping and looking for someone to stand in the gap to keep Him from destroying it!

So how does this all relate to us today? What can we do to make a difference in our lives, our families, and our country? God told Solomon in II Chronicles 7:14,” If My people which are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” God does not require that the godless turn to Him for our country be restored. But He requires that we, God’s people, must humble ourselves before Him. We must repent, confessing our sins to God. We, God’s people, must seek after him with our whole mind, body and soul, to learn again who He is as we seek His face. And we need to stop doing the wicked things that have alienated us from God and brought His judgment on our country. If we do these four things, then God will heal our land, and the walls and gates of His protection will be rebuilt.

Isaiah 59:1-2 Behold the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear. Isaiah 59:16a And He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor… Psalm 81: 13-14 Oh that my people had hearkened unto Me, and Israel had walked in my ways! I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries. II Chronicles 15:2,7,15b The Lord is with you, while ye be with Him; and if ye seek Him, He will be found of you; but if ye forsake Him He will forsake you. Be strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded. …For they had sworn with all their heart, and sought Him with their whole desire: and He was found of them: and the Lord gave them rest round about. II Chronicles 16:9a For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. Jesus said,” What could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation: The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:40b-41

If we want to preserve the freedom to worship God in our country, now is the time for Christians to repent, and to seek God with all our heart! Like the people that had a will to work on the wall, we need to have a will to work toward holiness! We need to have a will to work toward righteousness! Godliness must be our burning desire! We need to gather our fellow Christians and encourage them in setting a continuous watch of prayer. Let’s all band together and pray that we enter not into temptation and that God would deliver us from evil. Take an hour every day to invest in prayer for the kingdom of God and ask God to rebuild our walls and to heal our land. Get with others from your church and pray together based on the scriptures above. Call on other friends and churches and ask them to join in. Churches that will act and pray according to II Chronicles 7:14 will see growth, because God’s word enacted does not return to Him void, but will bear a rich harvest if planted in good soil. The world and worldly Christians may laugh, accuse and condemn us for this, but God’s kingdom will increase as we seek Him. God will have mercy on us if we seek Him with our whole heart. II Chronicles 7:14,” If My people which are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Let’s join together to rebuild the walls and gates of God’s Kingdom.
